Unity Concord International School’s Heartwarming Response to Chiang Mai Flooding: A Community United in Aid

In October 2024, heavy rains in Chiang Mai led to widespread flooding, impacting the lives of many, including UCIS families, staff, local residents, and nearby institutions, ABS and ACIS. In the face of these challenges, Unity Concord International School (UCIS) quickly shifted its priorities to community support. UCIS closed temporarily to ensure family safety, then took immediate action, transforming its gym and campus into an emergency evacuation center.

The evacuation center provided essential resources such as food, water, electricity, and shelter under the broader framework of the Ambassador Education Group’s (AEG) “Heart to Heart: Flood Recovery Project.” Together, UCIS students, families, staff, and local volunteers delivered more than 3,000 food boxes and aided in various tasks, including cleaning, preparing meals, and coordinating with military units on evacuation efforts.

Heartfelt Contributions from the UCIS Community

Over just a few days, the UCIS community showcased overwhelming generosity and kindness. Contributions, big and small, made a meaningful difference for flood victims. Here are a few notable acts of kindness:

  • Parents donated essential supplies like clothes washing and dishwashing items.
  • Waterproof shoes were collected and distributed to community members in need.
  • MK Restaurant kindly contributed 130 boxes of meat buns.
  • Teachers, maebaans (household helpers), and other volunteers helped clean damaged furniture at ABS and ACIS.
  • Families provided rice, water, and ingredients for meals at the evacuation center.
  • The Filipino community in Chiang Mai brought food and water to further support recovery efforts.

A United and Resilient Community

As floodwaters receded, UCIS continued its commitment by organizing safe transportation for bedridden individuals returning home. The school then embarked on thorough cleaning and disinfection of the gym and medical areas, restoring spaces for future use. This collective response highlighted the compassion, resilience, and strength of the UCIS community, bringing people together under the school’s motto, “Creating Together, Recovering Together.”

The response to the flooding has reinforced the spirit of unity within the UCIS community. Each contribution, whether large or small, has fostered hope and relief in a time of need. To everyone who participated in these efforts, thank you for your kindness and dedication. UCIS stands stronger than ever, continuing to embody its values of compassion and togetherness.
