Celebrating Fathers Day In Thailand

Next Tuesday, December 5th, 2023, marks Father’s Day here in Thailand. It’s a public holiday, which means schools and businesses will be closed. Father’s Day here is a special time when Thai folks express their appreciation and gratitude to their dads and father figures for the positive impact they’ve had on their children’s lives. People usually give small gifts or tokens of appreciation on this day, celebrating fatherhood and male parenting across the nation.

The Significance Of Father’s Day

The-Late-King

What makes December 5th even more significant is that it commemorates the birthday of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, often referred to as “The Father of the Nation.” His Majesty, remembered for his kindness and compassion, was not just a devoted family man but also a role model for the entire nation. His famous proclamation, “We shall reign this land with righteousness, for the benefit and happiness of the people of Siam,” set the tone for his reign, and his virtues continue to inspire people.

Though the celebrations have taken on a more commemorative tone in the years since His Majesty’s passing, Father’s Day remains an annual opportunity for Thais to remember and honor the late king, whose legacy of righteousness and compassion still holds a special place in the hearts of the people.

Ideas For Celebrating Dad

We know that everyone has their own special way to show Dad how much they appreciate all he does for them. However, if you’re running short of ideas, here are a few inspirations to help your kids spoil their father:

  • Take him tech shopping. You may find the only shop he has to stop at is the Studio 7 stores in Central Festival Chiangmai 3th Floor.
  • Many 5 star hotels in Chiang Mai will offer ‘Dads dine for Free’ lunch specials. So, it’s worth checking out the options available in your area.
  • Unplug and head over to Chiang Mai’s green lung where bikes can be hired for the day (But, make sure to let Dad win any races!)
  • Let him relax at home. Treat him to breakfast in bed and make small coupons or vouchers for treats he can use throughout the rest of the year.

Most importantly just remember the best gift of all is time.

Happy Fathers Day!
