My fondest memories of my kid’s early years are snuggled up in bed reading hundreds of books to them. Reading books to kids is their first introduction to the art of story telling and helps develop their imaginations, listening skills and a lifelong love of books and reading. When you read to your kids you’re telling them it’s your special time, it’s quality time just between the two (or more) of you. I still recall running from one room to the next due to varying ages and stages of books and bedtimes and making up stories when we ran out of books, some of which my kids still ask me to recall to this day! Did you know that over 50% of children between the ages of 3 to 8 say that their favourite thing to do with their parents is to read? Franklin the turtle and Charlie and Lola were rock stars in our house and many years on I still cannot part with them.
Thankfully for Chiang Mai kids their are many options and opportunities to both buy English books in Bangkok and go to various places for story telling events, here are the best, happy reading!

Little Lion Children’s Bookshop
Our Story
It all started with looking for books for our son. Every weekend we would make it a point to go out, find, and purchase books for our son, our Little Lion. New or used books, whatever we can get our hands on – we wanted to give our child the gift of reading as best we can.
Books are wonderful stores of incredible knowledge, wonder, and wisdom. We wanted our son to be exposed to books as early as possible, fostering the habit of independent reading in his childhood years, with hope that reading would be a life routine.
But in our weekly endeavors we quickly came to realize how limited availability and accessibility of children’s books were especially where we lived. So we set out to solve this problem for ourselves and in doing so found a community of parents having the same want for their children.
The Little Lion journey started with a decision to open a children’s bookshop in Hang Dong, Chiang Mai, not sure what to expect other than it would be fun to source good condition secondhand books and offer them at reasonable price to the local community. The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive and we were able to meet and make friends with lots of amazing families on this journey.
The online store is the next chapter of this bookshop’s story, and we hope you will find it valuable, useful, and meaningful for you and your Little Lion!
